Despite Parliament debating whether to ban notorious demagogue Donald Trump from the UK, politicians from all sides are aiming to lure him into the country – in order to appear better by comparison.
Recent research by notsonews identified that Trump was being courted by a string of MPs, Peers, and whiny university Liberal Democrat Chairs, a universally unpopular collection, who are trying to entice Trump to visit. One Labour MP is alleged to have told a close friend of Trump that he could arrange ‘the most haram meal possible’, featuring exclusively; pigs in blankets, scotch, and Charlie Hebdo napkins.
Meanwhile, a Tory source told us that there was no truth in the rumour that David Cameron had offered the use of Parliament Square for the Donald’s latest golf course, but, ‘the Prime Minister may have mentioned something about Hyde Park’.
In Scotland, the SNP have tried to keep their Trump efforts hidden, but with Nicola Sturgeon’s popularity plummeting after she failed to correctly identify the ingredients in haggis, they have also been working behind the scenes.
What these political efforts all have in common is their desire to ensure that Trump is in the country, drawing the ire of the public and making them look better by comparison.
This has been described as the ‘ugly friend strategy’, whereby Labour, Tory, SNP and other MPs, hope that by standing next to ‘The Donald’ – a registered 2, they will themselves appear at least a 5. The 5 of course is perceived in Westminster circles as the highest popularity level a politician can reach.
By comparison, Tyson Fury has never dropped below a 6.
