This may sound like a stupid joke but it isn’t : both France and Australia are developing a car that runs on compressed air.

Just like a balloon, you fill it up and let it go. But unlike a balloon, not all the air is released at once. The compressed air passes through “the engine” and acts like a controllable spring that gives back its stored energy in a highly efficient way.

With top speeds of 55 miles per hour and a possible range of up to 200 kilometers with one tank of air (4500 km hybrid version), both French engineer Guy Negre and Australian inventor Angelo Dipietro bring compressed air technology closer to high volume car production.
